What you'll be doing
In this vital and self-fulfilling role, you will be supporting our team in South Africa in the inspection and carrying out of structural and horticultural maintenance of war graves and memorials throughout Southern Africa.
You will also:
- Carry out a variety of maintenance tasks including but not limited to fixing headstones, repointing structural issues, erecting structures, e.g., fences, retaining walls, refurbishing bronze features and horticultural maintenance
- Read working drawings
- Sourcing and purchasing local materials and also engaging and managing local labour as required
- Be working as a member of a small team
Your physical fitness will be put to the test as you engage in hands-on, practical work.
This is a mobile role with frequent travel. You will be on the road travelling to sites across Southern Africa, in a vehicle provided by Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Travelling and spending protracted time away from home is a key characteristic of the job.

The Canada, Americas, and Pacific Area (CAPA) of the CWGC covers all of Canada, United States, the Caribbean, Central America, South America and the Falkland Islands (31 countries) in the Canada and Americas Region and another 10 countries in the Pacific Region including China, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Fiji, Thailand, Singapore, and Myanmar. We are responsible for caring and maintaining 72,000 war graves, over 66,000 commemorations, 89 CWGC owned cemeteries and other sites with memorials, stones of remembrance and crosses of sacrifice.
About the Role
As a Financial Administrator, you will be responsible to ensure all CAPA financial transactions, month-end financial data and records are maintained, accurately processed, and reconciled within set guidelines and deadlines. You will be responsible for payroll processing for CAPA as assigned, with specific focus on the 10 countries in the Asia Pacific Region. You will provide financial support to the CAPA Management Team, in line with corporate policies and procedures, as and when directed.
So that you know what to expect on any given day, you’ll be doing one or a variety of these tasks:
- Ensure that CAPA meet their Month-End financial transaction reporting into Great Plains within appropriate deadlines, with specific focus on the countries in the Pacific Region.
- Set up all payments onto the electronic banking system for approval and authorisation at a higher level.
- Process supplier invoices/credit notes making sure they match and reconcile against Purchase Orders.
- Process payments as required for maintenance contractors and suppliers for approval and authorization.
- Give guidance and support to all staff using the CWGC Purchase Management System (PMS)
- Check, arrange and reconcile submitted travel expense claims in Rydoo and raise any queries or anomalies to the Finance Manager.
- Check, analyse and enter credit card expenditure on Finance System and deal with queries, concerns and highlight to Finance Manager/Officer where appropriate.
- Chase and follow up on any missing receipts and returns.
- Ensure Area financial transactions are entered and updated in the finance system and reconciled following the month end process.
- Compile, enter and post general ledger journals as required.
- Maintain digital CAPA financial filing system and archiving of statutory records.
- Contribute to the financial onboarding of new hires across the area.
- Assist in other duties in the absence of either the Senior Finance or the Finance Managers.
- Assist in the day-to-day processing of the CAPA global payroll to ensure that all staff are paid in a timely manner and in accordance with existing policies and procedures
- Assist with the reconciliation of the CAPA payroll monthly and investigate and report on any variances.
- Communicate effectively with staff and other CWGC stakeholders.
- Assist with the preparation of financial reports as required and as assigned.
- Assists with the monitoring and financial reporting on CAPA Capital projects as assigned.
- Other office duties as and when required.

We are currently looking for a Health and Safety Manager based in Cyprus (Larnaca) or Rome (Italy) that would lead the implementation of a uniform Health and Safety (H&S) management system across all C&SEA countries, ensuring adherence to local H&S legislation and fostering a strong safety culture throughout the Area.
What you'll be doing
- Develop and maintain the C&SEA Health and Safety Management system, ensuring compliance with legislation, Global Standards, ISO 45001, and CWGC policies and procedures.
- Act as the principal point of contact for external H&S professionals, including consultants and occupational health professionals, and manage their performance effectively.
- Provide assistance to the Area regarding environmental and sustainability issues, ensuring alignment with health and safety objectives.
- Regularly report on the current health and safety performance of the business to relevant stakeholders.
- Drive a positive safety culture across the Area, fostering awareness and engagement among employees.
- Keep abreast of existing, new, and emerging legislation, leading projects to ensure compliance in consultation with internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop an annual monitoring plan and oversee incident investigation processes, ensuring timely action is taken where necessary.
- Manage the content and flow of regular health and safety communications, engaging employees and promoting positive health and safety practices.
- Develop and present a strategic health and safety plan to the Senior Management Team, overseeing its successful implementation.
- Conduct audits and inspections of sites, identify areas for improvement, and report findings to relevant stakeholders.
- Coordinate the update and maintenance of the Areas Health and Safety Manual and associated documentation.
- Manage and monitor delegated budgets, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and achievement of health and safety goals.
- Develop and manage global risk assessments, support Area Directors with local H&S action plans.
- Promote and develop a Safety Culture, undertake environmental, health, and safety planning, and prepare Business Continuity Plans when necessary.
What you need to have
- More than 5 years of experience in international/European Health and Safety (H&S) roles
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal in English and preferably also in Italian or German or Greek
- IT Proficiency
- Proven track record in creating, implementing, and managing multi-site H&S management systems, preferably with international experience
- Qualified to NEBOSH Diploma level or equivalent with significant H&S Management experience
- Holds a Master degree in engineering or equivalent field/ a BSc/BA in safety management or relevant field is preferred

The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation (CWGF) is a charitable foundation, created in 2017 to mark the Commonwealth War Graves Commission’s 100th anniversary. The Foundation highlights the work of the CWGC by telling the stories of the 1.7m people the CWGC commemorates. The Foundation aims to engage young people and the wider community in the story of our common sacrifice and shared history by funding educational initiatives, an interns’ programme and community activities. What You’ll Be Doing
