Commonwealth War Graves is delighted to have been awarded a gold certificate at the 2024 Harrogate Spring Flower Show.

The team’s show garden “11,000 Miles from Home”, was awarded the prize, bringing a little piece of the Commission cemetery to Harrogate.

CWGC Head Gardener Tim Lambert and Gardener Helen Gregory jointly designed the garden. The moving show garden highlights the sad fact that so many Commonwealth soldiers are buried so far from their respective homelands, in this case, New Zealand.

The design features three CWGC headstones framed by a neatly cut lawn in a traditional CWGC planting scheme. The Borders have been filled with various colourful plant life, including several species native to New Zealand.
