CWGC wins at Museum + Heritage awards

Our first ever War Graves Week was honoured at the Museum + Heritage awards, winning in the Best use of Digital (UK) category.

Working with the prestigious agency M&C Saatchi, War Graves Week brought local history to life by drawing links between the casualties we commemorate with the world of today.

We launched the ‘Who lived on your street’ tool allowed visitors to our site to search for their post code and discover which of the 1.7 million Commonwealth casualties of the world wars lived closest to them.

At the same time, we sent ‘letters home’ to 24 streets across the UK, inspired by former occupants of those communities who lost their lives during the world wars and are now commemorated by the CWGC.

This led up to War Graves Week itself, where we held a range of physical and digital events to introduce communities across the UK to the history on their doorstep.

With over 1.7 million casualties commemorated at 23,000 locations in more than 150 countries around the world, including over 300,000 commemorated across the UK, there is more than likely a Commonwealth war grave on your doorstep.
