HRH The Princess Royal honours the fallen of Arnhem

HRH The Princess Royal honoured the fallen of Arnhem in a service at CWGC Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on Sunday 22nd September.

CWGC President Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal laid a wreath during the service alongside Air Marshall Johnny Stringer and Chief of the General Staff General Sir Rowland Walker. Veteran Geoff Roberts also laid a wreath to his fallen comrades during the ceremony.

The serviced marked the culmination of commemoration events over the weekend in and around Arnhem, which began at Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on Friday 20th with the handing over of the CWGC Torch of Commemoration by veteran Geoff Roberts to Caroline Frost, daughter of Lt Col John Frost. This ceremony marked the final leg of the 'Path to Freedom' trail which had started in Leopoldsburg, Belgium on 10 September.

This was followed by a spectacular parachute drop on Saturday 21st by 700 paratroopers from 8 NATO countries at nearby Ginkel Heath, where the airborne forces originally landed 80 years ago.
