Menin Gate Restoration begins 17th April 2023
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission starts the restoration of the iconic Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial on 17 April 2023 to return the memorial to its former glory ready for its centenary in 2027.
Work will start on 17 April 2023 for a duration of ca. 2 years (until approx. March 2025).
From this day onwards:
- Scaffolding will cover the Memorial and the name panels entirely.
- Two pedestrian tunnels will provide access to visitors from and to the city.
- Two-way bicycle traffic and one-way vehicle traffic city inwards will be possible at all times, with exception of a full traffic closure from 15 to 25 May 2023.
- Coach parking remains at the usual location (Kauwekijnstraat and Hoornwerk).
The project is funded by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, with premiums from Flemish Government and City of Ieper.
