Top 5 Videos to Watch about the CWGC
This week we share five videos which explore the work of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and its role in caring for the 1.7 million men and women who lost their lives during the two world wars.
1. Get a sense of what our work is all about
In this short video you’ll get a taste of the kind of work that the CWGC does every year to maintain its cemeteries and memorials across the world.
2. Look behind the scenes
In this Slow TV video (which lasts half an hour) you’ll be able to see the process from start to finish of our team replacing a headstone at Brookwood Military Cemetery in Surrey.
3. Explore our work in Ireland virtually
In this virtual reality video, you’ll be joining Malcolm as he goes on one of his regular tours around our sites in Ireland to check up on war graves in remote and, often, isolated cemeteries or churchyards. (Feel free to wear a VR headset for this one!)
4. Be taken on a tour of our sites
For some of our cemeteries we’ve created short video tours with one of our expert historians. In this video Max will take you around Ranville Cemetery in Normandy and tell you about the stories of the individuals buried there.
5. Meet our staff on the ground
Our staff work all around the world and come from all walks of life. Today we employ more than 850 gardeners worldwide. One of those gardeners is Harry, based in Cambridge, who served with the military before joining the Commission.
