Chinese Ministry of Veterans' Affairs and academics visit CWGC

A delegation from China, made up of representatives of the Ministry of Veterans' Affairs and academics from Fudan University, visited CWGC Head Office in Maidenhead on 14 July 2025.

The delegation is tasked with identifying all those in China who died fighting for their country as well as those who died in a wider sense in the service of their country both in China and abroad since 1911.

The scale of their work is immense, with an estimated 20 million falling within the scope of their commemoration in over 150,000 memorial facilities located in China and overseas. Their goal in coming to Maidenhead was to hear more about our work across CWGC sites and about how we engage with international partners.

The Chinese team was briefed on aspects of our work, while they presented the CWGC with an overview of their operations.

On 15 July, the delegation visited Brookwood Military Cemetery in Surrey with a presentation by Senior Head Gardener Robert Thompson followed by a tour conducted by volunteer guide Mike Dawson.

The visit was fascinating and of great benefit, highlighting how much both organisations have in common, and deepening our global relations.
