CWGC statement on Staff evacuation from Gaza

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) is delighted to report the safe passage of our Gaza team and their immediate families to Egypt. The team will, after a suitable period of rest and recuperation, work alongside their Egyptian colleagues for the foreseeable future.

The team has almost 100 years of dedicated service to the Commission and are thrilled to be safe and to be back doing what they love best, tending the graves of our Commonwealth war dead.

During the present crisis, The Commonwealth War Graves Commission has been in daily contact with them to ensure their and their families wellbeing and safety. 

On behalf of the CWGC and our Gaza team we would like to thank all those who have sent messages expressing concern for their wellbeing over recent months. Your support is greatly appreciated.

We are aware that both cemeteries have suffered damage, but the extent is currently unknown. We will, however, restore those sites to a befitting standard as and when circumstances allow.
