Explore CWGC's global task with To The Four Corners

Today the Commonwealth War Graves Commission invites viewers to come on a digital adventure to some of the remote and hard to reach places where our work of remembrance continues to this day.

To The Four Corners offers a new insight into the work of CWGC, far beyond the battlefields of Europe, and celebrates the people who help us ensure no one is forgotten.

From remote islands in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean to deserts, jungle and the Arctic Circle, the Commission’s task has seen staff past and present face countless challenges.

How we overcome these difficulties will be told through staff video diaries, virtual tours of remote cemeteries and stories from the Commission’s unique UNESCO-recognised archive. Find out more here: fourcorners.cwgc.org

They include the recent renovations in the Iraqi desert that have seen nearly 300 distinctive white Portland headstones, engraved in CWGC’s Beaurains workshop, and installed at Habbaniya War Cemetery.

Victoria Wallace, Director General of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, said: “I am delighted that we are at last able to start work to replace the headstones in cemeteries in Iraq. There is still a long way to go, but with Habbaniya and Kut now restored, we can start to look at the others. Our teams reach some very remote locations in their care for war graves, and it is an endless task of which we are hugely proud - and that we will never give up.”
