Eyes On, Hands On spring restart
Eyes On, Hands On volunteers are back out in their local communities helping to keep war graves clean. More than 1,600 people have already offered to support this project that sees people across the UK check on the condition of war graves in their local area on our behalf.
After a pause due to lockdowns, volunteers have already visited more than 3,400 sites, inspecting more than 28,700 headstones.
After a pause due to lockdowns, we have now allocated over 5,500 sites to volunteers which means that 45% of our UK sites have a volunteer allocated to them, regularly inspecting the headstones.
As national restrictions now begin to lift again, we’ve been able to resume some of the Hands-On work that volunteers can be trained in. This includes safely cleaning headstones and pruning back overgrown vegetation.
Due to the fantastic surge in interest for this programme, we will complete training the volunteers who have already signed up, before opening to new recruits again in the summer.
Keep an eye on our volunteering opportunities and see if there's one for you on our volunteers page.
Eyes On, Hands On has been made possible thanks to a generous donation by Annington.
