HRH The Duke of Kent visits war graves in Scotland
His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent, President of CWGC, met the team that care for war graves across Scotland today during a visit to Commonwealth War Graves Commission base in Alloa recently.
The visit afforded the team an opportunity to tell HRH more about their varied work and some of the projects coming up over the winter months.
Iain Anderson, CWGC’s Regional Manager in Scotland said: “The Duke spent time speaking to all the staff and was genuinely interested in our work. In particular some of the new headstones we will be erecting over the next few weeks caught his eye – a constant part of our efforts to ensure the war dead are remembered.”
HRH also met Patricia Keppie, the Commonwealth War Graves Foundation’s Public Engagement Coordinator for Scotland who detailed plans to involve the local community in a dedicatory service when a newly accepted war casualty’s grave is marked by a CWGC headstone for the first time – the granite headstone having just arrived.
