The students receiving a talk on Rome War Cemetery in the the Rotunda.
This is the second year that the CWGC is hosting regular school visits to our cemeteries in the Lazio region of Italy.
On 28 January 2025, 35 students of the 5th grade and 3 teachers from the Istituto Massimo di Roma school visited the Anzio Beach Head War Cemetery, Italy. Their visit covered the cemetery, the casualties we commemorate and the recent 81st anniversary of the Anzio Landings celebrated in the cemetery a week earlier on 22nd January. It was followed by a second group visit from the school on the 30th January.
At Rome War Cemetery on the 29 January, three classes from the 3rd grade of Istituto Massimo, together with 6 teachers visited to learn about the work of the CWGC in Italy. Their visit covered the cemetery and the casualties we commemorate there with a chance to see the ongoing horticultural works happening during its closure. The students also found out about the upcoming 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Italy, which will be celebrated on 25th April 2025 across many Italian locations.
A rather wet day at the Anzio Beach Head War Cemetery.
