Lt Gen Ben Bathurst appointed as CWGC Commissioner

Lieutenant General Sir Ben Bathurst has joined the CWGC as the Army Commissioner.

He is currently serving as UK’s Military Representative to NATO and the EU. Prior to that, he served as General Officer Commanding London District and Major General Commanding the Household Division. He has held operational commands in Afghanistan, Iraq and Northern Ireland (including command of 1st Battalion Welsh Guards in Maysan, Iraq) and has served in Bosnia, Belize and Germany. He has also been the Army’s Director of Training. On various tours in the Ministry of Defence, he ran Army Public Relations and before that, he was employed in Army capability and acquisition.

Sir Ben said: “I am delighted to have been chosen as the Army Commissioner, following on from Sir Bill Rollo who has done so much during his tenure and accordingly, leaves a lasting legacy. I first visited Commonwealth War Graves in Flanders when I was eight-years-old and combined with my service in the Army, I have had a lifelong interest in the commemoration of those who have fallen in the service of our country. I am looking forward to playing my part in ensuring we commemorate the fallen in perpetuity.”
