Marking Remembrance Day 2025 around the world

Each November, we come together to pay our respects to those who fell in conflict. We were honoured to host many moving Remembrance Day ceremonies at our sites around the world this November.

Remembrance Day 2025

Westminster Abbey, London, United Kingdom

Members of the Armed Forces carried the Commonwealth War Graves Torch for Peace as part of the Westminster Abbey Remembrance Sunday service. We are immensely proud of being part of the ceremony. 

The Torch is a powerful symbol of commemoration, representing the passing of the legacies left by those who fought and fell in the World Wars to younger generations to preserve and protect.

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier sits within the Abbey, as do the Civilian Rolls of Honour, commemorating the Commonwealth's civilian war dead of the Second World War.

Remembrance Sunday Ceremonies & Parade, London, United Kingdom

Our team members from the UK head office, France, Belgium, and elsewhere participated in the Remembrance Sunday ceremonies and parade at the Cenotaph in London. Our Director of International Relations and Global Strategy, Charles Garett OBE, took part in the wreath-laying aspect of the day, laying a wreath on behalf of Commonwealth War Graves (Image below courtesy of the Press Association). It is a true honour to be invited to participate year after year.

Freetown Memorial, Sierra Leone

Rich Hills, our Director of Commemorations, was at the CWGC Freetown Memorial on Remembrance Sunday to observe the national act of remembrance.

Kanchanburi War Cemetery, Thailand

Commission Vice Chairman Vice Admiral Peter Hudson CB CBE and Area Director for Canada, Americas, and Pacific Area David Loveridge led Remembrance Day services at Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, alongside His Excellency Mr. Mark Gooding OBE, the British Ambassador to Thailand and more dignitaries.

We also welcomed several Grade 9 to Grade 12 students from nearby Kanchanakroh School to pay their respects. Many had taken part in our Student Guide Programme at the cemetery in August 2025.

Runnymede Air Forces Memorial, United Kingdom

We were honoured to once again host a Royal Air Force Remembrance service on behalf of the RAF Association South East and East Area at the Runnymede Air Services Memorial.

Brookwood Military Cemetery, United Kingdom

Brookwood is home to over 2,700 Canadian World War burials.

Rome War Cemetery, Italy

The British Deputy Head of Mission, David Burton OBE, hosted ceremonies in Rome War Cemetery. In attendance were ambassadors from various Commonwealth nations in Italy, officers from the Italian Armed Forces and the  Carabinieri. 

The St George’s British International School Rome Choir performed two songs.

Other notable guests included the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Italy, His Excellency Andy Detaille, and the General Representative of the Flemish Community and the Flemish Region, Mr Dries Willems.

Nairobi War Cemetery, Kenya

Moro River Canadian War Cemetery, Italy

Her Excellency Elissa Goldber, the Canadian Ambassador to Italy, attended the ceremoines and Moro River Canadian War Cemetery, organised by the Canadian College in Italy. Group Head Gardeneer Antoio Razionale laid a wreath on behalf of Commonwealth War Graves.

Phaleron War Cemetery, Greece

We were delighted to host several Remembrance events at our sites throughout Greece, including Suda Bay, Rhodes, and Corfu, and here at Phaleron War Cemetery. The UK Ambassador to Greece, His Excellency Matthew Lodge, represented the UK, alongside diplomats and military figures from the many nations who served in Greece in the World Wars.

Cassino War Cemetery, Italy

We were delighted to host a delegation from the Indian Armed Forces at Cassino War Cemeter this Remembrance. Guests included Indian Defence Atache Col. Roha Falnikar. Our thanks to Carlo Castiglia and the Cassino team for preparing the cemetery and sending us photos.

Yokohama War Cemetery, Japan

The Indian Embassy to Japan organised the Remembrance Sunday services at Yokohama War Cemetery, Japan, this year. Representatives from the five major Commonwealth nations buried here, the United Kingdom, India, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, were also in attendance.

Ermelo (Nunspeet) New General Cemetery, The Netherlands

People gathered to lay wreaths on the CWGC war graves at Nunspreet Cemetery, the Netherlands.

Deputy Ambassador to the Netherlands, Keith Allen, was present at moving ceremonies in Ermelo (Nunspeet) New General Cemetery, where six Commonwealth airmen of the Second World War are commemorated.

Singapore Memorial, Kranji War Cemetery, Singapore

The Commonwealth was well represented at the Remembrance Sunday Service organised by the UK in Singapore, at the Kranji War Cemetery, including New Zealand High Commission’s Chargé d'Affaires Keith Conway. Mr Conway was joined by figures from across the Commonwealth, including Canada, India, and the UK, at this year's ceremony.

Miami (Woodlawn Park) Cemetery, United States

Crewmen from HMS Medway attended the Remembrance ceremony at Miami (Woodlawn Park) Cemetery, organised by Britain in Florida. 13 British and Commonwealth naval trainees are buried in Miami after dying in service during the Second World War.

Jakarta War Cemetery, Indonesia

This year, we were joined by representatives from across the Commonwealth and Indonesian armed forces for the Remembrance Sunday services at Jakarta War Cemetery, Indonesia.

We were honoured to hold Remembrance Day services at Heliopolis War Cemetery, Egypt, on behalf of the British Embassy to Egypt. 

Chungkai War Cemetery, Thailand

Dignataries and armed forces figures gathered in Chungkai War Cemetery to mark Remembrance Day.

Chungkai War Cemetery hosted dignitaries, Commission staff, and representatives of the Armed Forces to pay their respects to the fallen in Chungkai War Cemetery, Thailand. Many of those commemorated here were victims of the infamous Burma-Siam Railway.

Santerno War Cemetery, Italy

This year, a ceremony took place at Santerno War Cemetery, Italy, attended by the Mayor of Firenzuola Giampalao Buti, as well as members of the local Carabineri, Italian Armed Forces, and more local institutions. Our big thanks to Nicola Bartolozzi and our Florence-based gardeners for preparing the cemetery.

Beirut, Lebanon

Beirut War Cemetery, home to over 1,180 World War burials, played host to this year's Remembrance service, organised by the UK in Lebanon.
