Trees planted in Coriano Ridge War Cemetery as part of '39,000 Trees for 2039'

Despite a cold and grey day, the final two trees were planted in Coriano War Cemetery, Italy as part of the CWGC global '39,000 for 2039' campaign. The event marked an important milestone for the initiative with 58 trees now planted in the Cemetery.

The event was attended by two local schools, the Mayor, the Environmental Councillor, and the Councillor for Public Services, highlighting the strong community and institutional support for environmental action.

Following a brief introduction by the Mayor, both Councillors addressed the audience, underlining the importance of sustainability and local engagement. CWGC Country Manager for Italy, Claudia Scimonelli then provided an overview of the 39,000 for 2039 project, emphasising the critical role of biodiversity and environmental protection for future generations.

Schoolchildren actively participated in the planting activities, planting the first tree assisted by the Coriano Group. This was followed by the Mayor and the Environmental Councillor planting the second. The students remained involved throughout the process, helping to water the newly planted trees and learning about proper tree care.

Additionally, the students were given the opportunity to explore the site through an educational activity supported by a CWGC resource shared in advance with their teachers. This allowed students to better understand the environmental, historical, and ecological significance of the area.

The event successfully combined education, community involvement, and environmental stewardship, reinforcing the shared commitment to biodiversity and sustainability at both local and global levels.
