Vandalism repair completed at Mierlo War Cemetery
The Commonwealth War Graves (CWGC) Works team have completed the repairs to Mierlo War Cemetery which was attacked last week.
Mierlo War Cemetery, which holds 664 Commonwealth soldiers and one Dutch soldier from the Second World War, was damaged last week after slogans were spray-painted across many of the headstones and the Cross of Sacrifice.
CWGC staff were quickly on site to begin repairing the damage immediately. We’re glad to announce that the cemetery has been restored to its usual high standards ready for the upcoming 75th anniversary of Allied forces landing in The Netherlands.
Our sites play an important role during these times of remembrance, welcoming people from across the globe who wish to come together to pay their respects and give thanks for the sacrifice made by the war dead.
While these acts of vandalism are incredibly disappointing, it is always heart-warming to see the amount of support offered by the public in such times. We would like to thank everyone who got in touch with messages of support.
