Manchester Southern Cemetery - War Graves Week Open Day
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) will be bringing War Graves Week to Manchester.
War Graves Week is an initiative aimed at encouraging people from the local community to come together and discover the World War heritage on their doorstep – learning about the stories of those commemorated by the CWGC in Manchester and the skills, dedication and expertise of those CWGC staff and volunteers who work to keep their memory alive.
CWGC employees and experts will be conducting tours/talks/demonstration's about CWGC history, horticulture, headstone maintenance and stone engraving. You will also have the opportunity to try your hand at engraving, in our masonry master class. Feel free to drop in, we will be conducting two RAF tours that are free but require a ticket. Meet at the CWGC marquee near the main entrance. Parking available on site. Public toilets available.

11-2pm - Open Day. Drop in anytime. Find out about CWGC history in the area and our ongoing work. Hear the stories of the international casualties we commemorate in Manchester.
11.15 and 12.30 – RAF tours, free tickets bookable below. Learn about the history of the RAF in Manchester and hear some of the stories of the RAF casualties we commemorate in the cemetery.
12.15 and 13.30 - Horticulture talks. No ticket needed.
12.25 and 13.40 - Stonemason talks and demos. Watch a talk and demo by one of our master stonemasons and have a go for yourself. No ticket needed.
