Paisley Hawkhead Cemetery - War graves Week Tours
Around the world ordinary people do extraordinary things every day for their community. They do it today, and they did it during the world wars.
As part of War Graves Week 2023, join the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) for a cemetery tour at Paisley Hawkhead Cemetery!
In Paisley Hawkhead Cemetery, the CWGC care for 221 war graves of service personnel that had served and died during the First or Second World War. In addition to the Commonwealth plots, this cemetery also contains Canadian, Australian and Polish war graves.
Come along, on this CWGC cemetery tour to learn more about the history of our organisation as well as the work we have done and continue to do to ensure the stories of the remarkable individuals who served and died during the world wars are not forgotten.
MEETING POINT: The Cross of Sacrifice - visible when you enter through the main cemetery gates. The main entrance is on Hawkhead Road, which can be reached from Glasgow city centre via the A726 Barrhead Road or A761 Glasgow Road - if you are travelling by car.
Limited parking available inside the cemetery; no toilets; no refreshments available.
Wheelchair/ mobility scooter access: The walk will encompass tarmac, gravel, and grass paths. There are slopes and it can be steep in some places.
Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring a water bottle with you if needed. The numbers on the tour will be limited to abide by any Government restrictions and social distancing rules at the time of the tours.
Under 12s may join the tour without a ticket if they are accompanied by a ticket holding adult.
