The Commonwealth War Graves Commission is excited to announce the upcoming conference, 'Preserving our heritage amidst climate challenges', which will be hosted at 'Het Perron' in Ypres, Belgium, on the 27th of February.
This edition will centre around the critical theme of climate change and its profound impact on our historical estate.
The primary focus will delve into extensive research on how climate change affects our historical structures, with a particular emphasis on understanding its implications for natural stone preservation, accompanied by practical tips for sustainable management.
Furthermore, we will explore the repercussions of climate change on historical landscapes. The conference will unveil recent studies conducted on two sites in the Netherlands, shedding light on the immediate and long-term maintenance plans required to safeguard these invaluable assets.
The third key aspect of our discussions will revolve around the pivotal role of soil in water management and its significance in the battle against climate change.
The full program, scheduled to be launched at the end of January, promises engaging sessions that will deepen our understanding of these crucial topics. We invite you to be a part of this enlightening discourse.
Let us come together to explore sustainable solutions for the challenges our historical estates face in the wake of climate change.
