Location information
The Republic of Djibuti, previously known as the French Territory of the Afars and the Issas, is situated on the north-east coast of Africa and is bounded by Ethiopia to the north and west, by Somali Republic to the South and by the Gulf of Aden to the east. Take the N2 road from Ambouli International Airport to the town. On the right side of the road there is another road leading off the Nakheel traffic circle (the third exit). Djibouti New European Cemetery is located about 250 metres down this road on the left side. The cemetery itself is located about 150 metres back from the road up a dirt track. The cemetery is enclosed by a wall and is therefore not visible from the main road. Access to the dirt track is closed by a 2 metre high double gate topped with razor wire and has a high fence on each side. History information
Djibouti New European Cemetery contains 13 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War, nearly all of them airmen. The graves are in two groups with the many French graves surrounding them.
