Location information

Middlesbrough is 240 miles north of London. It was the principal seat of the English iron trade and suffered severely from enemy air raids during the war. The parish of Acklam, where the cemetery is situated, is on the south side of the town. The cemetery, which belongs to the County Borough of Middlesbrough, is in Acklam Road South, about three miles south of the town centre.

History information

There are 93 burials of the 1939-1945 War, of which 19 are in a special group of war graves near the main avenue in the centre of the cemetery, the remainder being scattered in other sections of it. They include 12 sailors, 51 soldiers and 27 airmen, all belonging to the forces of the United Kingdom; one man of the Merchant Navy; one man of the Home Guard, and an ex-service woman, buried in the special group, whose grave has been marked by a headstone designed to harmonise with those on the war graves beside it.
