History information

Since the early part of the 20th century the ancient custom of cremation instead of burial has been increasingly followed, and during the Second World War this last rite was accorded to servicemen and women when desired. In Springvale Crematorium are the ashes of 67 war casualties who were cremated here, and are here commemorated. Commemoration is by everlasting embossed bronze memorial plaques both for the niches and other specially designed recesses, and for memorial trees and shrubs.
