History information

During the 1939-1945 War, Hull Crematorium was situated in Hedon Road Cemetery, but there was also a columbarium in the Northern Cemetery where some of the ashes of those cremated in the Crematorium were placed. Eventually, the Hedon Road Crematorium was closed down by the local authorities and a new crematorium was constructed adjacent to the Northern Cemetery, where a permanent memorial to commemorate all those who were cremated was built.
