Location information
Thorney Island: From Portsmouth/London take the A27 towards Chichester and exit at Emsworth, then follow the A259. Thorney Barracks is signposted approximately 3 kilometres from the A27. Visitors should report to the barrier at the Barracks with some ID, and they will then be given directions to the churchyard (visitors do need to drive).
Visiting information
Please note, in order to access West Thorney (St Nicholas) Churchyard you will need to drive through the military base to reach the village and church. Access is tight and it is advisable to contact the Station Staff Officer on 01243 388356 prior to your visit.
History information
There are 52 Commonwealth burials of the 1939-45 war here, 1 of which is an unidentified airman of the R.A.F. There are 21 German Air Force men buried here and 1 non-war service burial.
