Location information

Giessen is a town in central Germany approx 70km north of Frankfurt am Main. From the A45 Dortmund to Giessen motorway take exit 33 (Ausfahrt 33) and follow A485 GIESSEN / MARBURG / LINDEN for approx 12kms. Take exit 2 (Ausfahrt 2) GIESSEN-WIESECK and follow direction GIESSEN along the L3128 HANGELSTEINSTRABE for approx 1km, and turn left direction GIESSEN onto the MARBURGERSTRABE. Continue along MARBURGERSTRABE for approx 2.5km, and turn right onto FRIEDHOFSALLEE. The main cemetery entrance can be found approx 400m along this road. Turn right on entering the main cemetery gates and continue along the path for approx 180m. The "Judischer Friedhof" can be found on the left. The CWGC grave is to the right of the building in the 4th row of graves on the left of the path. History information

The majority of First World War Commonwealth war graves in Germany were moved into four permanent cemeteries after the war. However, a few graves could not be moved on religious grounds or for other reasons and they remain in their original locations in German military and civil cemeteries. Giessen Jewish Cemetery contains one Commowealth burial of the First World War.
