Location information

Haus Spital is a very small village on the outskirts of Münster in West Germany. From the A1 Bremen to Münster motorway take exit 77 (Ausfahrt 77) B54 MÜNSTER-NORD and follow direction MÜNSTER. After approx 1.5kms turn left at traffic lights onto STEINFURTER STRAßE, continue for approx 600m then turn left at roundabout onto HAUS UHLENKOTTEN and continue for approx 1km. Turn right onto HORSTMARER LANDWEG and continue for approx 300m and then turn left onto AM GIEVENBACH. Continue for approx 400m and turn left onto HAUS SPITAL (signposted KRIEGSGRÄBERSTÄTTE). The cemetery can be found approx 200m along this track on the right. The CWGC headstone is located on the left side of the central path. History information

The majority of First World War Commonwealth war graves in Germany were moved into four permanent cemeteries after the war. However, a few graves could not be moved on religious grounds or for other reasons and they remain in their original locations in German military and civil cemeteries. Munster Haus Spital Cemetery was attached to a large prisoner of war camp. Most of the Commonwealth graves were removed to Cologne Southern Cemetery, but the grave of one Indian serviceman remains
