W. Inwood, Home Guard (since deceased)."

Sect. Cdr. Inwood was called to a cellar in which a number of people were trapped following a heavy air raid in Birmingham. The house had been struck by a bomb causing a gas leak, all in the cellar were unconscious due to the effects of the gas, Inwood was lowered down by rope and managed to save two men. Although suffering from the gas himself he went down again but this time he collapsed and died.
