CWGC hosts school visit of St George's British International School at Rome War Cemetery

On Tuesday 20th December at Rome War Cemetery, Italy, we had the pleasure of welcoming thirty 11-year-old students from St George's British International School, Rome.

Walking alongside the original roman Aurelian Walls that border the site, the pupils and their teachers could appreciate the iconic architecture of the cemetery’s Cross of Sacrifice and Stone of Remembrance.

Then under a December morning sun, the young visitors listened to the story of the 426 Commonwealth fallen commemorated in the heart of the Italian capital. These casualties fought for the liberation of Rome in the Second World War.

The pupils also learnt about the work that CWGC carries out on in its 57 war cemeteries and 126 total sites across Italy.

After the guided tour, the children were given an educational quiz with questions and curiosities relating to specific fallen soldiers and regiment badges, giving them the opportunity to search for the answers on their own, taking home with them some emotional information relating to the Commonwealth fallen.
