Five unknown World War One soldiers laid to rest at Loos British Cemetery, France

Five unknown World War One British soldiers were laid to rest on 15 October 2024 in the newly inaugurated CWGC Loos British Cemetery Extension, France.

The new cemetery was built after nearby construction works discovered a large number of World War One remains The CWGC wanted to ensure that, on reburial, the fallen would remain side by side.

Sadly after a lengthy identification process by the MOD’s Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre (JCCC) and the CWGC, none could be identified by name.

Around 100 people from the local area attended the service, 70 of which were local schoolchildren. The Deputy Mayor of Loos-en-Gohelle laid a wreath on behalf of the city along with Xavier Puppinck, CWGC France Area Director who laid a wreath on behalf of the CWGC.
