Volunteer open days at Brookwood Military Cemetery
Following the success of the Big Help Out, the CWGC is launching volunteering days for members of the local community.
We’re looking for volunteers to join us at Brookwood Military Cemetery to assist with some basic horticultural maintenance of our largest UK cemetery, where we commemorate over 5000 service personnel.
We’re looking for keen, passionate volunteers who don’t mind getting their hands dirty for a good cause.
We are currently anticipating three volunteering days across September, October and November, with the possibility of more opportunities in 2025.
What will you be doing?
Our team of volunteers will be assisting our Brookwood team with some basic care and maintenance of our plots within the cemetery – including weeding, collecting leaves and other similar tasks.
The days will run from 10am to 3pm, with a break for lunch. Once the work is completed, you’ll have the opportunity to join a tour of the site with one of our expert tour guides, to learn more about the history of the site and about the men and women who are commemorated there.
Who are we looking for?
Anyone who feels fit and able to carry out a few hours of manual work is welcome to apply. We’d especially love to hear from those with a passion for horticulture and a love for the great outdoors.
Necessary equipment and training will be provided, but our volunteers are welcome to bring their own gloves, kneelers and any other relevant equipment. Hot drinks and water will be provided; however lunch will not be provided so we would advise bringing food. Please wear sensible clothing and footwear and bring water and refreshments.
How do I apply?
Our open days will be held on 24 September, 24 October and 28 November 2024.
