Rededication Ceremony for Seven Australian Soldiers at CWGC Fromelles (Pheasant Wood) Military Cemetery, France

A rededication ceremony will be held for seven Australian soldiers at 18.00 (local time) on 19 July 2024 at CWGC’s Fromelles (Pheasant Wood) Military Cemetery, France.

The soldiers died during the Battle of Fromelles and were previously commemorated on the memorials to the missing at V.C. Corner Australian Cemetery and Memorial and the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial. The soldiers are:

Private William Christopher Brumby, 31st Battalion, Australian Infantry

Private Herbert James Graham, 54th Battalion, Australian Infantry

Private Ernest Frank Welling, 30th Battalion, Australian Infantry

Private George Robert Barnatt, 29th Battalion, Australian Infantry

Private Alfred William Fitch, 5th Australian Pioneers

Lance Corporal Harold Thomson Smith, 8th Field Company, Australian Engineers

Corporal Percy George Archibald Barr, 54th Battalion, Australian Infantry

The CWGC will mark their recently identified graves with Commission headstones and will care for their final resting places in perpetuity. The service has been organised by the Australian Army’s Unrecovered War Casualties section (UWC-A) and will be attended by Australian Defence staff, Regimental representatives, CWGC staff and local dignitaries.
