Rededication for seven A.I.F. soldiers at CWGC Fromelles Military Cemetery, France

A rededication ceremony will be held for seven soldiers of the Australian Infantry, A.I.F. at 18.00 on 19 July 2023 at CWGC’s Fromelles (Pheasant Wood) Military Cemetery, France.

The soldiers all died on 20 July 1916 during the Battle of Fromelles and were previously commemorated on the memorial to the missing at CWGC’s V.C. Corner Australian Cemetery and Memorial, Fromelles. The soldiers are:

Private Edwin Charles Gray, 32nd Battalion, A.I.F.

Private Walter Allen Grace, 31st Battalion, A.I.F.

Private Richard James McGuarr, 55th Battalion, A.I.F.

Private Alexander Russell Robert Page, 32nd Battalion, A.I.F.

Private Maurice James Claxton, 32nd Battalion, A.I.F.

Sergeant Oscar Eric Baumann, 32nd Battalion, A.I.F.

Corporal William John Stephen, 55th Battalion, A.I.F.

The CWGC has marked their recently identified graves with Commission headstones and will care for their final resting places in perpetuity. The service has been organised by the Australian Army’s Unrecovered War Casualties section (UWC-A) and will be attended by Australian Defence staff, Regimental representatives, CWGC staff and local dignitaries.
