Rosebank Cemetery - War Graves Week tours

War Graves Week is an initiative aimed at encouraging people from the local community to come together and discover the World War heritage on their doorstep – learning about the stories of those commemorated by the CWGC and the skills, dedication and expertise of those CWGC staff and volunteers who work to keep their memory alive.

Edinburgh (Rosebank) Cemetery contains 270 First World War burials. Most died in the Gretna railway disaster, when two trains collided at Quintinshill Junction near Gretna on 22 May 1915, killing 210 officers and men of the 1st/7th Royal Scots on their way to embark for Gallipoli. Victims of the disaster are buried in the Memorial Ground. The cemetery also contains 36 Second World War burials.

This cemetery contains two CWGC plots in addition to individual war graves.

Rosebank Cemetery in addition to having a large number of CWGC headstones from both the Great War and Second World War is also the location of the Memorial to the Gretna Railway Disaster of 22nd May 1915 involving the 7th Battalion Royal Scots
