Location information
This cemetery, which belongs to the Municipality, is situated on Forest Hill Road in the suburb of South End. From the intersection of Humewood Road, which leads along the beach front, follow La Rocher Drive in the direction of the airport for 2.2 kilometres. Turn right into Forest Hill Drive and the cemetery is on the left. The majority of the graves are in the 1939/1945 military plot (H Extension) and the rest are scattered throughout the cemetery.
History information
During the Second World War, the local provincial hospital operated a military wing. No 42 Air School was based on the aerodrome on the outskirts of the city and No 43 Air School at nearby Port Alfred. Port Elizabeth (South End) Cemetery contains 16 Commonwealth burials of the First World War and 126 from the Second World War.
