Location information
Tela is a coastal resort about 95 kilometres from San Pedro Sula, the second city of Honduras, from where it is best to travel by road. Following the road through the town in a south westerly direction (i.e.with the sea on the right hand side) continue past the Villas Telemar holiday villas, which are signposted at their entrance, and the small monument on the right hand side to the constructors of the airport. Take the next right turn into an unmade road and follow the curve to the left. This road runs adjacent to the cemetery, although there are no marked boundaries. Turn right again at the first junction on to another unmade path heading to the beach. Follow this for approximately 100 metres and the war grave can be found on the right, about 15 metres in from the path and facing away from it. It comprises a standard Commission headstone mounted on a large concrete base, with an additional buttress behind the headstone. The area is densely packed with grave markers, and as a guide the searcher should look for the war grave between a large balustraded memorial plot to the right and a large black tiled memorial to the Villadares family to the left of the war grave.
History information
Tela New Cemetery contains one Commonwealth burial of the Second World War.
