- It is important to check the weather forecast, as the grass and dirt surfaces can become very slippery when wet.

 

- There are numerous tree roots that could prove a trip hazard.

 

- Care should be taken not to stand beneath trees when they are about to fruit.

Location information

The cemetery is situated in the Jericho district of Ibadan near the Forestry Department Research Centre, 3 kilometres from the railway station. The gateway constructed at the entrance to the cemetery is approached by a drive off the main road leading to the Government Rest House. In the centre of the cemetery stands the Cross of Sacrifice and there are eight denominational plots where the graves are distributed.

ARRIVAL

The cemetery is not signposted.

PARKING

It is possible to park close to the cemetery along a track edged with black and white kerbstones. The track runs from the road to the main entrance.

It is possible to park within 2 metres of the main entrance. There are spaces for up to 4 vehicles.

An additional parking area is available outside the perimeter of the cemetery, off the main road.

In both parking areas ground is firm and flat, with a top surface of compacted earth and sand.

ACCESS, LAYOUT AND MAIN ENTRANCE

The cemetery is rectangular shaped. The burial plots are positioned around the edges of the cemetery.

There is a 4-metre wide, low level latched metal double gate (mid-thigh height) on flagstone paving. The opening section of the gate is 1.5 metres wide and opens inwards into the cemetery. There is a small raised metal gate-stop in the centre opening of the gate.

The main entrance feature is approximately 300 mm above the access track. A concrete ramp slopes up to the entrance gate.

The cemetery Register Box is inside the entrance on the left side wall.

There is a level change from the entrance paving to the grass inside the cemetery of approximately 150 mm.

The internal cemetery paths are grass; the ground is flat and firm.

The Cross of Sacrifice is in the centre of the cemetery.

There is a metal information panel at the main entrance on the left-hand pillar facing into the cemetery.

ALTERNATIVE ACCESS

There are no alternative entrances into the cemetery.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Visitors to the cemetery are advised to check the weather forecast before visiting the cemetery. During periods of heavy rain, the ground can become muddy and waterlogged.

There are exposed tree roots at ground level around the cemetery.

Care should be taken to not stand under fruit trees in the cemetery when they are in fruit.

This cemetery contains the graves of 137 Commonwealth casualties of the Second World War, 6 of which are unidentified. There are 8 Foreign National burials and 17 non world war burials.
