Location information
Overijse is a village and commune astride the main Brussels-Namur road, about 17 kilometres south-east of Brussels. Terlaenen is a hamlet 3 kilometres north-east of the village of Overijse. The churchyard is in the centre of the hamlet, and the Commonwealth graves are in the north-western part, against the west wall.
History information
The British Expeditionary Force was involved in the later stages of the defence of Belgium following the German invasion in May 1940, and suffered many casualties in covering the withdrawal to Dunkirk. Overijse (Terlanen) Churchyard contains 15 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War, nine of them unidentified.
