Ayr Cemetery is located to the east of Ayr town centre. The main entrance is directly on Holmston Road. If approaching Ayr from the direction of Glasgow take the M77 and then continue to follow the A77 until the Ayr town centre exit. Head towards the town centre on Holmston Road (the A70). The cemetery has a sizeable plot along the left hand side of this road, with the main entrance at the far end (the town end). The cemetery is a ten minute taxi journey from Ayr railway station.
History information
The 1914-1918 War burials are scattered over all parts of the cemetery and 1939-1945 War graves are in several special groups. A War Cross is erected in the Old Ground, near the main entrance.
There are now nearly 90, 1914-1918 and nearly 120, 1939-1945 Commonwealth War casualties commemorated in this site.
