Location information

Leave Karonga heading south on the M1. After 2.8km turn right towards the airport. The cemetery will be found 1.15km along this road on the right hand side past the government hospital and school. The cemetery is set back 40m from the road, and is marked by a roadside direction sign. GPS location: S 9º 57' 23" E 33º 54' 19.6"

Karonga War Cemetery is open every day between 06:00 and 18:00.

History information

This cemetery was created in 1985 after the original site was submerged by Lake Malawi. It contains 11, 1914-1918 and 1, 1939-1945 Commonwealth war graves and 6 German burials.
