HRH The Princess Royal to inaugurate the new Brookwood 1914 – 1918 Memorial

Our President, HRH The Princess Royal, will inaugurate the new Brookwood 1914–1918 Memorial at Brookwood Military Cemetery, marking the completion of another major Commonwealth War Graves Commission project honouring hundreds of First World War personnel previously missing from the national record.
The memorial, crafted from Portland stone and set within a woodland landscape, reflects the CWGC’s shift toward sustainable, climate‑resilient planting and landscaping at its sites.
The concept “in stone, sky and landscape” was created by award winning UK architectural practice Studio Wignall & Moore, with the landscape vision provided by internationally acclaimed garden designer Tom Stuart-Smith.
The memorial’s stelae are arranged to mirror the brightest constellations visible on 11 November 1918, the night the guns fell silent. The ceremony will recognise years of research, design and collaboration by CWGC teams, supported by families, historians, volunteers, horticulturists and architects, as the organisation continues to evolve how it commemorates the fallen across its global estate.
The inauguration will take place on June 9th in a private event at Brookwood Military Cemetery.
