Guided Tour of the Menin Gate, Ieper, Belgium with a CWGC Historian - 29 August 2026

Explore the Menin Gate with our historian and discover the stories behind some of the 54,000 Commonwealth soldiers it commemorates.

Join one of our historians for a 45-minute guided tour in and around the iconic Menin Gate, starting at the Menin Gate Café (Menenstraat 46), just opposite the memorial. Discover the story of its design, construction and its recent restoration, completed in 2025 in preparation for the Gate’s centenary in 2027. You’ll explore the meaning behind the 54,000 names engraved on its panels and what it tells us about the missing of the First World War. There’s plenty of opportunity for questions and conversation throughout — and you may even find a personal connection.

The tour finishes back at the café, where you can relax with a proper cup of Yorkshire tea or a refreshing British lemonade. We also serve a variety of local wines and beers.
