Bangladesh

CHITTAGONG WAR CEMETERY, CHATTOGRAM
Explore Chittagong War Cemetery and discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve and fight in Bangladesh during the Second World War (1939-1945). There are more than 730 Commonwealth burials of the 1939-45 war here. Chittagong War Cemetery is open every day between 08:00-12:00 and 14:00-17:00. Wheelchair access possible via main entrance.

Belgium

LEOPOLDSBURG WAR CEMETERY
Leopoldsburg is the ideal place to explore the theme of a ‘world war’ and discover the stories of those from across the globe who are buried here. There are 800 servicemen buried here from the Second World War. 16 of the burials are unidentified. Wheelchair access to the site is possible via the main entrance.

Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery
Lijssenthoek is the ideal place to explore the theme of a ‘world war’ and discover the stories of those from across the globe who are buried here. There are nearly 11,000 burials of servicemen and women from the First World War. 25 of the burials are unidentified and there are eight Special Memorials to those known or believed to be buried here. Wheelchair access to the site is possible via an alternative entrance at the side of the cemetery.

MESSINES RIDGE BRITISH CEMETERY AND NEW ZEALAND MEMORIAL
Close to the Peace Village hostel, this cemetery and memorial allows students to explore the theme of ‘World Wars’, discovering the stories of those from across the British Empire who fought here between 1914 and 1918. There are more than 1,500 Commonwealth servicemen of the First World War buried or commemorated in the cemetery. 957 of the burials are unidentified, but special memorials commemorate a number of casualties known or believed to be buried among them, or who were buried in other cemeteries where their graves were destroyed by shell fire. Within the cemetery stands the Messines Ridge (New Zealand) Memorial which commemorates over 800 soldiers of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force who died in or near Messines in 1917 and 1918 and who have no known grave. YPRES - MENIN ROAD SOUTH CEMETERY
Explore Menin Road South Cemetery and discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve and fight in Belgium during the First World War. There are more than 1,650 servicemen of the First World War buried or commemorated in this cemetery. Wheelchair access to site possible but may be by an alternative entrance.

YPRES - RAMPARTS CEMETERY
Explore the beautiful Ramparts Cemetery and discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve and fight in Belgium during the First World War. The cemetery contains nearly 200 Commonwealth burials of the First World War. Wheelchair access to this site is possible but maybe by an alternative entrance.

YPRES - RESERVOIR CEMETERY
Explore the fascinating Reservoir Cemetery and discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve and fight in Belgium during the First World War. There are more than 2,600 Commonwealth servicemen of the First World War buried or commemorated in the cemetery. 1,034 of the burials are unidentified. Wheelchair access to this cemetery is possible via main entrance.

YPRES - TOWN CEMETERY AND EXTENSION
Explore Ypres Town Cemetery and the CWGC extension and discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve and fight in Belgium during the First World War, including British royalty. The cemetery contains 145 Commonwealth burials of the First World War, grouped in plots among the civil graves. The EXTENSION was much increased after the Armistice when 367 graves were brought in from small cemeteries and isolated positions east and north of Ypres. There are now 598 Commonwealth casualties of the First World War buried or commemorated in the extension. 137 of the burials are unidentified and there are special memorials to 16 servicemen known or believed to be buried among them. Second World War burials number 43, of which 13 are unidentified. Wheelchair access is possible via the main entrance.

Egypt

ALEXANDRIA - CHATBY MILITARY AND WAR MEMORIAL CEMETERY
Explore Chatby Military and War Memorial Cemetery (originally the Garrison cemetery) and discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve here in the World Wars. The cemetery contains nearly 2,700 Commonwealth burials of the First and Second World Wars. The Cemetery is open Saturday to Thursday 0730 to 1430. The cemetery is kept locked outside of these hours.

ALEXANDRIA - HADRA WAR MEMORIAL CEMETERY
Explore Hadra War Memorial Cemetery and discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve here during the World Wars. The cemetery contains nearly 3,000 Commonwealth burials of the First and Second World Wars. The Cemetery is open Saturday to Thursday: 7.00am to 14.30pm and closed on Friday. The cemetery is kept locked outside of these hours.

CAIRO - HELIOPOLIS WAR CEMETERY
Explore Heliopolis War Cemetery and discover the stories those who came from across the globe to serve and fight in Egypt during the World Wars. There are more than 1,740 Commonwealth casualties of the Second World War buried or commemorated in the cemetery, and the 83 war graves of other nationalities reflect the diverse make-up of the Middle East Command. There are also two CWGC Memorials to the Missing on this site. At the main entrance to the cemetery a single step leads to a double gate. All the paths inside the cemetery are firm and level, all paths inside the cemetery are grass. There is a service entrance from the main car park leading to a step free access point. It is possible for visitors who require step free access to use this entrance.

CAIRO - WAR MEMORIAL CEMETERY
Explore Cairo’s War Memorial Cemetery and discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve here during the World Wars. The cemetery contains more than 2,400 Commonwealth burials of the First and Second World Wars. The Cemetery is open Saturday to Thursday: 7.00am to 13.30pm and closed on Friday. Please note that the cemetery gates are kept closed, although unlocked, during working hours. Visitors are advised to contact the Commission's Regional office in advance of their visit, who will advise the Head Gardener of the arrival. Tel: +202 2290 1247 or +202 2419 5561.

EL ALAMEIN WAR CEMETERY AND MEMORIALS
Discover El Alamein War Cemetery and explore the stories of more than 6,400 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War. The Alamein Memorial contains a further 8,500 names. The cemetery is open every day from 07:00-17:00. Visitors should note that when the gardeners leave the site at 14:30 there is a police guard outside the cemetery until 17.00. Visitors arriving between these times will be given access. Wheelchair access is signposted.

PORT SAID - WAR MEMORIAL CEMETERY
Explore Port Said War Memorial Cemetery and discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve here during the World Wars. The cemetery contains more than 600 Commonwealth burials of the First and Second World Wars. The Cemetery is open Saturday to Thursday: 7.00am to 14.30pm and closed on Friday. The cemetery is kept locked outside of these hours.

France

ARRAS - FAUBOURG D'AMIENS CEMETERY
Explore the fascinating Faubourg d’Amiens Cemetery and discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve and fight in Arras during the World Wars. There are more than 2,650 Commonwealth burials of the First World War, 10 of which are unidentified, as well as a small number of burials from the Second World War. There are also two CWGC Memorials to the Missing on this site. Wheelchair access to the cemetery is possible via an alternative entrance at the rear.

BAYEUX WAR CEMETERY AND MEMORIAL
Explore the fascinating Bayeux War Cemetery and Memorial to discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve and fight in Normandy in the Second World War. The cemetery contains 4,144 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War, 338 of them unidentified. There are also over 500 war graves of other nationalities, the majority German. The Memorial stands opposite the cemetery and bears the names of more than 1,800 men of the Commonwealth land forces who died in the early stages of the campaign and have no known grave. Wheelchair access to the cemetery is possible via the main entrance.

BENY-SUR-MER CANADIAN WAR CEMETERY
Explore Beny-sue-Mer War Canadian War Cemetery to discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve and fight in Normandy in the Second World War. Many of those buried in Beny-sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery were men of the 3rd Canadian Division who died either on 6 June or during the early days of the advance towards Caen. The cemetery contains 2,048 Second World War burials, the majority Canadian, and 19 of them unidentified. Wheelchair access to the cemetery is possible.

BREST (KERFAUTRAS) CEMETERY
Explore the Kerfautras Cemetery in Brest and discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve and fight during the Second World War. There are more than 30, 1914-18 and nearly 100, 1939-45 war casualties commemorated in this site.

LOOS BRITISH CEMETERY & EXTENSION
Explore Loos British Cemetery and discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve and fight here during the World Wars. There are nearly 3,000, 1914-18 and a small number of 1939-45 war casualties commemorated in this site.

RANVILLE WAR CEMETERY AND CHURCHYARD
Explore Ranville War Cemetery and the adjoining churchyard to discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve and fight in Normandy in the Second World War. There are more than 2,250 Commonwealth burials from the Second World War, 90 of them unidentified. There are also 323 German graves and a few burials of other nationalities. The churchyard contains 47 Commonwealth burials, one of which is unidentified, and one German grave. Wheelchair access to the cemetery is possible.

Gaza

GAZA WAR CEMETERY
Explore Gaza War Cemetery and discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve and fight here during the World Wars. The cemetery contains more than 3,200 Commonwealth burials of the First World War, 781 of them unidentified. Second World War burials number 210. The cemetery is open every day from Saturday to Wednesday from 7.00am to 3.00pm. Wheelchair access possible via main entrance.

Greece

ATHENS - PHALERON WAR CEMETERY
Explore Phaleron War Cemetery and discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve and fight in Greece during the World Wars. There are more than 2,000 Commonwealth servicemen of the Second World War buried or commemorated in this cemetery. There are also two CWGC Memorials to the Missing on this site. Phaleron War Cemetery is permanently open and may be visited at any time, including weekends and public holidays.

MIKRA BRITISH CEMETERY
Discover Mikra British Cemetery which contains 1,810 Commonwealth burials of the First World War, as well as 147 war graves of other nationalities. Within the cemetery will be found the Mikra Memorial, commemorating almost 500 nurses, officers and men of the Commonwealth forces who died when troop transports and hospital ships were lost in the Mediterranean, and who have no grave but the sea. Mikra British Cemetery is permanently open.

SALONIKA (LEMBET ROAD) MILITARY CEMETERY
Explore the stunning Salonika (Lembet Road) Military Cemetery. There are now 1,648 Commonwealth servicemen of the First World War buried or commemorated in this cemetery. The Commonwealth plot also contains 45 Bulgarian and one Serbian war graves. The cemetery is permanently open.

SUDA BAY WAR CEMETERY
Explore the beautiful Suda Bay War Cemetery and discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve and fight in Crete during the Second World War (1939-1945). There are now 1,500 Commonwealth servicemen of the Second World War buried or commemorated in the cemetery. The cemetery also contains 19 First World War burials brought in from Suda Bay Consular Cemetery. Wheelchair access possible to the right of the main entrance. Suda Bay War Cemetery is permanently open.

Hong Kong

SAI WAN WAR CEMETERY
Explore the fascinating Sai Wan War Cemetery and discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve and fight in Hong Kong during the World Wars. There are more than 1,400 Commonwealth casualties of the Second World War buried or commemorated at Sai Wan War Cemetery. There are also three CWGC Memorials to the Missing on this site. Sai Wan War Cemetery is open daily: 08:00 - 17:00. It is important to check the weather forecast prior to planning a visit. The Cemetery is located on an exposed slope, with a large number of steps, on many different levels. There is a shelter building available, if required.

STANLEY MILITARY CEMETERY
Explore Stanley Military Cemetery and discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve and fight in Hong Kong. There are nearly 600 Commonwealth servicemen of the Second World War buried or commemorated in this cemetery. The cemetery is open daily: 08:00 - 17:00. It is important to check the weather forecast prior to planning a visit. The Cemetery is located on a slope, with a large number of steps, accessed by four flights of steps.

Hungary

BUDAPEST WAR CEMETERY
Discover Budapest War Cemetery and explore the stories of 173 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War, all of them airmen whose graves were brought in from sites all over Hungary after the war. There is also a single First World War graves here, as well as one French and 37 Polish war graves.

India

IMPHAL WAR CEMETERY
Explore Imphal War Cemetery and discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve and fight in India. The cemetery contains 1,600 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War. Imphal War Cemetery is open every day between 09:00-16:30 (March-September) and 09:00-16:00 (October-February. There is no proper disabled access however assistance can be given by our staff if required.

KOHIMA WAR CEMETERY
Explore the fascinating Kohima War Cemetery, set on one of the most famous battlefields of the Second World War. Discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to fight here. The cemetery contains 1,420 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War. Kohima War Cemetery is open every day between 09:00-16:00. The cemetery is completely terraced with terrace levels ranging from 3 - 5 metres high which makes wheelchair access to this site impossible.

Israel

BEERSHEBA WAR CEMETERY

The cemetery contains more than 1,200 Commonwealth burials of the First World War. The Cemetery is permanently open and may be visited at any time. Italy

CASSINO WAR CEMETERY AND MEMORIAL
Explore the fascinating Cassino War Cemetery and Memorial to discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve and fight in Italy in the Second World War. There are now 4,271 Commonwealth service personnel of the Second World War buried or commemorated at Cassino War Cemetery. 289 of the burials are unidentified. Within the cemetery stands the Cassino Memorial which commemorates over 4,000 Commonwealth casualties who took part in the Italian campaign whose graves are not known. Discover Faenza War Cemetery and explore the stories of 1,152 Commonwealth troops of the Second World War who are buried here. The cemetery is permanently open.

GIAVERA BRITISH CEMETERY
Explore Giavera British Cemetery and discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve and fight here in the First World War. The cemetery contains 417 Commonwealth burials of the First World War and one memorial to the missing. The cemetery is always open and can be access at any time.

ROME WAR CEMETERY
Explore the beautiful Rome War Cemetery and discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve and fight here in the Second World War. The cemetery contains 426 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War. Rome War Cemetery may be visited at any time. The entrance to the cemetery is via a rotunda building (Tempietto). There are two small steps up into the building then two steps down on the opposite side, leading into the cemetery. Once inside the cemetery, there are gravel paths. Areas inside the cemetery without gravel surfaces are flat and level made of turf or grass.

Kenya

MOMBASA - MBARAKI CEMETERY
Explore Mbaraki Cemetery in Mombasa and discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve here in the World Wars. Mombasa (Mbaraki) Cemetery contains 51 Commonwealth burials of the First World War and 146 of the Second World War. This cemetery is open every day between 06:00 and 18:00. NAIROBI - KARIOKOR CEMETERY

NAIROI WAR CEMETERY

NANYUKI WAR CEMETERY

Malta

ADDOLORATA CEMETERY
Addolorata Cemetery contains 250 Commonwealth burials of the First World War and 18 from the Second World War. Please check the cemetery information page for opening times.

IMTARFA MILITARY CEMETERY
This beautiful site has over 1,400 civilian and military graves all cared for by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Amongst the many striking private memorials are 253 graves of casualties from the First and Second World War. Please check the cemetery information page for opening times.

MALTA (CAPUCCINI) NAVAL CEMETERY
This tranquil cemetery is the final resting place of over 1,000 casualties from the two World Wars alongside many more civilian memorials. Many of the Commonwealth burials are marked by flat headstones bearing multiple names due to the shallow earth and hard rock found in Malta. PEMBROKE MILITARY CEMETERY
Pembroke Military Cemetery contains nine Commonwealth burials of the First World War and 315 from the Second World War. Situated within the cemetery is the Pembroke Memorial which commemorates 52 servicemen of the Second World War whose graves in other parts of Malta are so situated that permanent maintenance cannot be assured. Their names appear on marble plaques let into the plinth of the Cross of Sacrifice. Please check the cemetery information page for opening times.

PIETA MILITARY CEMETERY
Tucked away in the bustling town of Pieta is this tranquil cemetery. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission cares for over 2,000 graves here, of which 1,300 were servicemen. Please check the cemetery information page for opening times.

Netherlands

ARNHEM (OOSTERBEEK) WAR CEMETERY
Also known as The Airborne Cemetery, Arnhem (Oosterbeek) contains the graves of many killed during Operation Market Garden in 1944 and those killed in later fighting in the area. There are 1,684 Second World War Commonwealth servicemen buried or commemorated here, 243 burials are unidentified and two casualties are commemorated by special memorials. Wheelchair access to this cemetery is possible via the main entrance.

GROESBEEK CANADIAN WAR CEMETERY AND MEMORIAL
Discover the stories of more than 2,600 Second World War Commonwealth casualties. Within the cemetery, the Groesbeek Memorial also commemorates more than 1,000 who fell in north-west Europe between late August 1944 and May 1945 and whose graves are not known. Wheelchair access to cemetery possible via main entrance.

JONKERBOS WAR CEMETERY
Explore Jonkerbos War Cemetery which contains 1,629 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War, 99 of them unidentified, and 13 war graves of other nationalities. Wheelchair access possible via main entrance.

UDEN WAR CEMETERY
Explore Uden War Cemetery which contains 701 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War (two of them unidentified) and two Polish war graves.

VALKENSWAARD WAR CEMETERY
Valkenswaard was the first village to be liberated on the main line of the British advance into Holland in September 1944. The cemetery lies in a beautiful pine wood, containing over 220 graves, most are those who fell in the fighting in the woods around Valkenswaard during that month. All the men buried here belonged to the forces of the United Kingdom.

Pakistan

KARACHI WAR CEMETERY
Discover Karachi War Cemetery which was created to receive Second World War graves from civil and cantonment cemeteries scattered throughout northern Pakistan. The cemetery contains 642 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War, as well as the 1914-1918 Memorial and the 1939-35 War Memorial.
The opening hours of the cemetery are: Monday to Thursday 0800 hrs to 1700 hrs; Friday 0800 hrs to 1200 hrs; Saturday 0800 hrs to 1700 hrs. Outside of these hours the gates at the cemetery main entrance are locked.

Poland

KRAKOW - RAKOWICKI CEMETERY
At the end of the Second World War, Commonwealth graves from all over Poland were moved into three cemeteries, this being the largest. Those buried here died while prisoners of war during the German occupation. Other graves brought into the cemetery were airmen who lost their lives during the Warsaw supply drop and the bombing of factories, railways and other strategic objectives. Some of these airmen were originally buried in Warsaw. There are now 483 Commonwealth casualties of the Second World War buried or commemorated in Krakow Rakowicki Cemetery. The cemetery is open: April – September 07:00 - 20:00 and October – March 07:00 – 18:00.

POZNAN - (OLD GARRISON) CEMETERY
After the First World War, the graves of Commonwealth servicemen who had died in Poland as prisoners of war were gathered together in this cemetery. There are now 174 Commonwealth servicemen of the First World War buried or commemorated in the cemetery. The majority of the 283 Second World War graves in the cemetery are those of airmen, many of whom died in bombing operations on Stettin (now Szeczin). Also buried here are those involved in the mass escape from Stalag Luft 3, Sagan (now Zagan), in March 1944. The cemetery also contains the POZNAN MEMORIAL. This cemetery is permanently open to the public.

Sierra Leone

FREETOWN - KING TOM CEMETERY
Explore King Tom Cemetery and discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve here in the World Wars. The cemetery contains 248 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War, two of which are unidentified. There are also 129 First World War burials, many of them due to an epidemic of sickness in September - October 1918. Freetown (King Tom) Cemetery is open every day between 06:00 and 18:00.

SIERRA LEONE BOOK OF REMEBRANCE
Visit the National Museum in Freetown and discover the Sierra Leone Book of Remembrance, which commemorated more than 900 who lost their lives in the World Wars.

Singapore

KRANJI WAR CEMETERY
Explore the beautiful Kranji War Cemetery and discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve here in the World Wars. There are more than 4,460 Commonwealth casualties of the Second World War buried or commemorated here, as well as four memorials to the missing. Kranji War Cemetery is open every day 07:00-18:30. The cemetery is constructed on a hill with the means of access being via three flights of steps, rising over four metres from the road level.

South Africa

CAPE TOWN - MAITLAND CEMETERY
Explore Maitland Cemetery and discover the stories of those who came from South Africa and from across the globe to serve during the First and Second World Wars. Cape Town (Maitland) Cemetery contains 439 Commonwealth burials of the First World War and 528 from the Second World War. There are also nine war graves of other nationalities within the cemetery and over 540 non-war burials (mostly Anglo Boer war graves) in the Commission's care here. Within the cemetery stands the Cape Town (Maitland) Cremation Memorial which commemorates by name 17 casualties of the Second World War. The cemetery consists of four sections. The 1914-1918 Commonwealth war graves are mainly in Section 4 and the 1939-1945 Commonwealth war graves are mainly in the Military Plot at the rear of Section 4, which has a large, raised platform and a Cross of Sacrifice feature. Around 200 other Commonwealth war graves are scattered throughout the Sections.

PRETORIA - THABA TSHWANE NEW MILITARY CEMETERY
Visit Thaba Tshwane New Military Cemetery and discover the stories of those who came from South Africa and from across the globe to serve during the First and Second World Wars. The Commission maintains 293 Commonwealth, 1 Greek and 1 Belgian burial of the Second World War in this cemetery. All the graves are in one plot with a Cross of Sacrifice.

Tanzania

DAR ES SALAAM WAR CEMETERY
Explore Dar es Salaam War Cemetery and discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve here in the World Wars. Dar es Salaam War Cemetery contains more than 1,760 Commonwealth burials of the First World War, and 41 from the Second World War. Dar es Salaam War Cemetery is open every day from 06:00 to 18:00. Wheelchair access to this cemetery is possible via main entrance.

Thailand

CHUNGKAI WAR CEMETERY
Explore Chungkai War Cemetery and discover the stories of those who came from across the globe and died during the building of the ‘Death Railway’ in the Second World War. The cemetery contains nearly 1,700 Commonwealth burials. The cemetery is permanently open. Wheelchair access possible via the main parking area to the left of the main entrance.

KANCHANABURI WAR CEMETERY
Explore Kanchanaburi War Cemetery and discover the stories of those who came from across the globe and died during the building of the ‘Death Railway’ in the Second World War. The cemetery contains nearly 6,900 burials. The cemetery is open from 0800 hrs–1700 hrs Monday to Friday and 0800 hrs–1200 hrs on Saturday. Wheelchair access possible via the service entrance, next to the office building.

United Kingdom

BROOKWOOD MILITARY CEMETERIES
Explore the fascinating military cemeteries at Brookwood and discover the stories of those who came from across the globe to serve in the World Wars. Brookwood Military Cemetery now contains more than 1,600 Commonwealth burials of the First World War and 3,476 from the Second World War. There are also two CWGC Memorials to the Missing.
OPENING TIMES: 0800-1930 weekdays, 0900-1930 weekends and bank holidays. Guided tours and education sessions can be provided for free to schools and community groups.

GIBRALTAR
